79"×91" or 91"×98" — how much overhang do you want?
Both sizes are full bed coverage; the bigger one just hangs further down the sides. Work out whether you want the blanket to sit on top of the mattress or to drape past it toward the floor.
| Choose | If this sounds like you |
|---|---|
| 79"×91" | You want a neat top layer with a modest tuck at the sides, or you have a bed frame with a base you'd rather not hide. Also the one to pick if a second person will be sharing it with you on the sofa. |
| 91"×98" | You want the blanket to fall well down both sides so the bed looks properly dressed without a valance, or you have a deep mattress plus a topper eating up the drop. |
Deep mattress plus topper is the case people underestimate most — an extra few inches of mattress height eats the overhang from both sides at once.
Reversible — so which side is the "right" one?
Neither. That's the point, and it changes how you use the blanket. Both faces are finished, so there is no wrong-side seam allowance or backing fabric to hide.
| Works for | Worth knowing |
|---|---|
| Folding the top edge back over the pillows so both faces show at once | A reversible weave shares its threads between the two faces, so the pattern on one side is the negative of the other |
| Flipping the whole blanket when you want the room to feel different without buying anything | Cotton relaxes and softens over the first few washes — it will feel different at month three than on day one |
Care: machine wash cool, gentle cycle, tumble low or line dry. Take it out while it still has some damp in it and spread it flat or over the bed — that's the step people skip, and it's the difference between a blanket you have to iron and one you don't.
One blanket, two beds — depending on which way up you throw it.
The usual problem with a patterned blanket is that you commit to it. You like it in April, and by August you are quietly sick of looking at the same arrangement of flowers every time you walk past the bedroom door. A reversible weave sidesteps that: the same object gives you two different rooms, and switching takes about eleven seconds.

Cotton, and why the pattern is woven rather than printed
A printed blanket has ink sitting on the surface of the cloth. Wash it enough times and the print goes chalky at the fold lines, because that is where the fabric flexes most. A woven pattern doesn't have this failure mode — the design exists because the threads themselves change places, so there is nothing on top to wear off. The trade is that a weave can't do photographic detail, which is why the zantedeschia flowers here read as clean graphic shapes: long stems, that distinctive furled trumpet, the broad spade-shaped leaves.
Cotton is the reason this works as year-round bedding rather than a seasonal throw. It breathes, so it doesn't trap a layer of warm damp air the way synthetic fleece does, and it holds a crisp fold instead of collapsing into a shapeless heap at the foot of the bed. It also gets softer with washing rather than worse, which is not true of most fabrics you own.
Choosing between the two sizes
- 79"×91" — sits across the mattress with a working amount over each side. Neat, tailored, and easy to pull straight in the morning. This is also the size that behaves best as a sofa blanket when the bedroom isn't using it.
- 91"×98" — generous drop. It covers the sides of the mattress and keeps going, so the bed looks made even when it is only half made. Choose this one if your mattress is deep, if you use a topper, or if you just prefer the look of fabric falling toward the floor.
Either way, the calla lily motif is doing the same work in the room: a large-scale botanical that gives a plain bedroom something to look at without filling it with pattern. On a bed against a white or pale wall it becomes the focal point, and it settles happily next to wood, rattan and unbleached linen.
