A tie back has one job — hold the curtain in a soft gathered fold instead of a shapeless lump — and how well it does that depends on the curtain, not the tie back. Check yours against this before ordering.

Keep it clean with a dry cloth or a light dust; if it needs more than that, a barely damp cloth and then dry it straight away rather than leaving it wet on the fabric.
The step people skip: getting the height right. Tie backs sit best about a third of the way up from the hem, not halfway. Halfway makes the curtain look pinched in the middle; a third up gives you the long sweeping fold you actually wanted.

Open curtains are almost always the untidiest thing in a room. They get pushed against the wall in the morning, bunch into a fat vertical lump, and stay like that all day — half the window blocked, the fabric creased where it has been squashed. Why the flower shape does more than a plain band
A plain tie back holds fabric. That is all it does, and it does it invisibly, which is fine if invisibility is the goal. A flower form gives that space something to be, and because it repeats at every window in the room, one small decision reads as a scheme rather than an ornament.
Shape also changes how the curtain falls. A flat band flattens the gather into a tight waist. A form with some depth to it holds the fabric slightly away from the wall, so the folds behind it stay open and the curtain reads as drapery rather than as a bundle.
