Forest or Sunbeam — and which size?

Both colorways are reversible, so each one is effectively two throws and you can flip whichever face suits the season. The names tell you the pair: one face leads, the other is the quieter reverse.

Choose If this sounds like you
Forest & Pebble You have plants, timber and a green or navy sofa, and you want the wheat motif to read as botanical rather than as a print.
Sunbeam & Stone Your room runs cream, oat and grey and needs one warm note without going bold. The stone reverse disappears into a linen sofa entirely.
59"×79" Sofa duty. One adult full length, or folded in thirds along the back of a two-seater as the thing that makes it look finished.
79"×91" You want it spread across a bed as the top layer, or two of you use it on the sofa and one of you always ends up with a bare shoulder.

Because it flips, plenty of people put the darker face up in winter and the pale one up from spring, and never buy a second throw.

How does cotton hold up to being used every day?

Cotton is the fibre that improves with washing rather than surviving it — which matters for a throw that gets sat on, spilled on and dragged around. Here is where it works and where it does not.

Works well for Not the right pick for
Daily sofa use, spring and autumn bedding, a layer that lives on the bed year-round Anyone after a heavy plush blanket for a cold, unheated room in midwinter
Hot sleepers, and anyone who finds fleece clammy after an hour A dog bed or a car boot blanket — the woven face will snag on claws

Wash cool on a gentle cycle with like colors. Skip fabric softener entirely: on cotton it deposits a waxy film that makes the fabric feel slick at first and stiff after a few months. Tumble low or line dry, and reshape it while it is still damp so it dries square.

The step people skip: separating it out for the first wash. Any new dyed cotton releases a little color on the first cycle — run it on its own once and you never have to think about it again.

One throw that changes character when you turn it over.

The usual problem with a patterned throw is that you get bored of the pattern before you get bored of the throw. It looked right in October and by March it is the loudest thing in a room you now want to feel calm. So it gets folded into the cupboard, and the sofa goes back to being bare, and you start browsing for a new one that will do the same thing in eighteen months.

Reversible means the pattern is woven, not printed

A throw can only be genuinely reversible if the design is built into the weave. Printed fabric has a right side and a wrong side — flip it and you get a faded ghost of the pattern on a grey backing. Here the wheat motif appears on both faces with the two colors swapped, because the same yarns are doing the work from both directions.

That construction also decides how long it looks good. A printed surface wears at the fold lines and along the sofa arm, and the pattern goes patchy exactly where you see it most. Woven color has nothing to rub off. The throw gets softer, the wheat stays sharp.

    • Forest & Pebble — deep green wheat on soft grey one side, the reverse swapped. The green face is the one for autumn and for rooms with a lot of timber; the pebble face is what you flip to when you want the sofa quiet.
    • Sunbeam & Stone — warm golden wheat against soft stone. The gold face brings light into a north-facing room; the stone face reads almost solid from across the room and vanishes into an oatmeal sofa.
    • 59"×79" — sofa size. Full length cover for one, or folded lengthways over the back of a sofa as a color band.
    • 79"×91" — bed size. Wide enough to sit across a bed with overhang on both sides, or to cover two people on a sofa properly.
