Care is simple: cold or warm machine wash, low heat or line dry, no bleach. The step people skip is hanging it over the rail or the side of the tub on days it gets soaked instead of leaving it flat on the floor — tufted pile dries fast in air and slowly against tile.

Second, the raised and recessed areas give the mat texture rather than a uniform flat carpet feel, so it grips your soles a little as you shift your weight.
Pile depth is also why it recovers. A cheap mat compresses in the two spots where feet land and stays compressed, giving you a visible pair of footprints permanently pressed into the middle. Denser tufting springs back after each wash, so the mat still looks like a mat six months in rather than a used doormat.
