Which size fits my bathroom?
Measure the rail end to end, then measure the drop from the rail down to inside the bath. Those two numbers decide it. A curtain should be a little wider than the rail so it gathers into folds — one that exactly matches the rail always ends up gaping at the ends.
| Size | Best for |
|---|---|
| 59" × 71" | Narrower rails and shower recesses under about 59". Less fabric to gather, so it suits a smaller bathroom. |
| 71" × 71" | The standard square. A normal bath with a rail at normal height — the size most bathrooms are built around. |
| 71" × 79" | Same width, longer drop. For a rail mounted high, or where you want the hem well clear of the floor. |
If your rail is well over 71", run two panels side by side. You get overlap in the middle instead of a gap that leaks.
How do I keep the cherries red and the background clean?
A pale background with bright red motifs is the hardest combination to keep looking new — and also the easiest to protect, if you know what causes the damage. It's soap scum on the background and heat on the red.
| Works | Avoid |
|---|---|
| Pulling the curtain right across the rail to dry after each shower | Leaving it scrunched wet against the tiles, where scum sets into the folds |
| Cool gentle machine wash | Hot washes, which lift red dye faster than any other color |
| Rehanging it damp to dry flat on the rail | Bleach, which greys the background and dulls the cherries at the same time |
The step people skip: opening it out fully at night. A curtain that spends eight dark hours bunched damp is the one that develops spots along the hem within a season.
The cheapest way to stop a bathroom feeling like a bathroom.
A small bathroom has almost nothing you can change without a weekend and a plumber. The tiles stay, the suite stays, the floor stays. The curtain is the one full-height surface in the room that swaps out in ninety seconds, and going from a foggy plain liner to a wall of cherries is the largest visual change available to anyone who isn't renovating.

Why the drape decides whether it looks good
Shower curtains fail in two directions. Too stiff and they stand out from the rail like cardboard, swinging outwards and letting water run down the outside of the bath. Too flimsy and they wrap around your shins the moment the water warms the air. What you want is a panel with enough body to hang in ordered vertical folds and enough give to push back into place without a fight, which is what makes the cherry pattern read as a repeating field rather than a stretched flat sheet.
The cherries run across the whole height of the panel, top to hem. That matters more than it sounds, because the lower half of a shower curtain spends its life half-hidden behind the bath. A pattern that only lives in the top third disappears completely once the curtain is drawn.
Where a cherry curtain earns its place
- Over a standard bath — 71" × 71" is the square that fits the majority of rails, with fabric to spare for folds and a drop that clears the tub rim without pooling on the floor.
- In a smaller recess — 59" × 71" for a narrower rail, so you get proper gathers instead of a panel stretched flat.
- Under a high-mounted rail — 71" × 79" gives you the extra drop without changing the width.
- In a white or grey bathroom — this is the one object supplying color, so it does the work a feature tile would, without grout.
- In a kids' or shared bathroom — pattern hides the general chaos of shampoo bottles and bath toys far better than a plain panel does.
