71 inches or 94 inches — which one actually fits my table?
Measure the tabletop, not the room, and this is a two-second decision. A runner is supposed to overhang the ends. The only way to get it wrong is to buy a length that stops short of the edge and sits there looking like an offcut.

Rule of thumb: aim for roughly a hand's width of overhang at each end. If your table lands between the two, size up — a runner can drape, it can't grow.
Will the tassels survive an actual dinner?
They will, as long as you don't let them dangle into anything. The fringe is the nicest part of this runner and the part most likely to end up in a gravy boat, so give it somewhere to hang free.

Lay it down the centre line, tug it square at both ends, then run your fingers through the tassels so they hang in one direction. That last step is the one everybody skips — the runner arrives folded, and folded tassels look like bedhead until you comb them out once.
