Which size goes on my table?
Two of these sizes aren't tablecloths at all — they're toppers. Measure your tabletop, then decide how much overhang you want the tassels to hang in.
| Choose | If this sounds like you |
|---|---|
| 24"×24" or 35"×35" | You're dressing a side table, a nightstand, or the top of a dresser — something under a lamp or a vase, where you want the tassels visible on all four edges. |
| 53"×53" | A square or small round dining table for two to four, or a card table you'd rather nobody recognised as a card table. |
| 53"×71" | The everyday rectangular kitchen table that seats four to six and gets used for homework as often as dinner. |
| 53"×91" | A long dining table, or a table with a leaf in it that only comes out when people are over. |
Add roughly 8–12 inches to each tabletop dimension for a drop that reads as a tablecloth rather than a cover.
What happens to the tassels in the wash?
Tassels are the first thing to go on a trimmed cloth, and almost always because of the machine, not the wear. They tangle, they wrap around the agitator, and they come out matted.
| Do this | Avoid this |
|---|---|
| Wash cold on a gentle cycle, folded so the tassel edges sit on the inside | Washing it loose with zips, hooks or anything the fringe can wrap around |
| Blot spills straight away, then treat the spot before the whole cloth goes in | Bleach — it takes the bloom print down before it takes the stain out |
| Line dry or tumble low, then comb the tassels straight with your fingers while damp | Ironing directly over the tassels or letting them dry twisted into knots |
The step people skip: straightening the fringe while it's still damp. Do it then and it hangs properly; do it dry and you're picking at knots.
A table that's set, even when there's nothing on it.
A bare table always looks like it's waiting for something. Crumbs show, ring marks show, and every scratch the last decade put into the surface is right there in the light. A cloth solves all three at once, and this one has the advantage of doing it without looking like a formal dinner — a soft floral bloom print with tassels along the edge, closer to something inherited than something bought.

The tassel edge is what separates it from a sheet of printed fabric
Most budget tablecloths are hemmed and that's it — a straight machine line, four corners, done. The edge is where the eye lands, and a plain hem tells you exactly how much the cloth cost. A tassel trim changes the reading entirely. It gives the drop some weight so the cloth hangs rather than lifting in a draught, it breaks the hard line where the fabric ends, and it catches shadow along the table edge in a way a flat hem never does.
It's also the detail that makes the smaller squares work as toppers. A 24"×24" piece of printed cotton on a side table is a placemat; the same piece with fringe on four sides is a deliberate choice.
Where each size ends up
- 24"×24" — nightstand or plant stand scale. Sits under a lamp base with fringe showing all round.
- 35"×35" — a console, a small round hall table, or layered on top of a larger plain cloth for contrast.
- 53"×53" — square tables and small rounds. The bloom print reads as one full pattern rather than a fragment.
- 53"×71" — the standard family table. Long enough to cover a four-to-six seater with a proper drop at both ends.
- 53"×91" — long tables and extended leaves, where the pattern runs the length of the room.
