Does a waffle towel actually dry you, or just look good?
Waffle cotton dries you by pulling water into the pockets of the weave rather than by having a deep pile. It behaves differently from a thick terry towel, and knowing how is the difference between loving it and being confused by it.

A waffle weave is a grid of raised squares and recessed pockets. A terry towel does the first job well and the second job badly. That trade is the entire argument for waffle.
