Will it actually stay put on my floor?
A backed mat grips by contact, which means the floor has to be clean and dry underneath before it can do anything. Most "it slides" complaints are a dusty or damp subfloor, not the mat.

Why tufted, rather than flat woven
A tufted mat is made by pushing loops of yarn up through a backing, so the surface is a forest of upright fibre ends rather than a flat sheet. Three things follow. It has real depth underfoot, which is the warmth. It has far more surface area touching your feet, which is what pulls water off quickly instead of just spreading it. And it springs back — the loops stand up again after being stood on, so the mat doesn't develop a permanent flat patch where everyone steps.
The non-slip backing is the other half of the design. Its whole purpose is to hold the mat in place on a hard bathroom floor, which is when a wet mat is genuinely a hazard rather than an inconvenience. It only works against a clean, dry floor, which is why the care instruction above matters more than it sounds.
