Which size — the couch one, or the bed one?
It's the same blanket either way, so you can't pick the wrong pattern. The only decision is how much of it you want.
| Choose | If this sounds like you |
|---|---|
| 59"×79" | You want something to pull over your legs while you're sitting up, or a folded layer across the foot of the bed for the two months a year you need it. |
| 79"×91" | You're covering a full or queen bed and want it to hang past the mattress instead of stopping short. Also the right call if two of you share and one of you always ends up with the edge. |
One of each is not unreasonable — the small one lives on the sofa, the large one stays made into the bed.
Will the garden pattern survive the washing machine?
Yes, if you keep the water cool. Woven cotton holds its color far better than printed cotton, because the color is in the yarn rather than sitting on the surface. Heat is what causes trouble, not water.
| Fine | Avoid |
|---|---|
| Cold machine wash on a gentle cycle, on its own or with other cottons | Hot water, which is what makes cotton shrink the first time |
| Line drying, or the lowest tumble setting pulled out slightly damp | A long hot tumble dry, which tightens the weave and stiffens the hand |
| Mild detergent, warm iron on the reverse if you want it flat | Bleach and fabric softener — one strips the color, the other coats the fibers |
The step people skip: shaking it out and straightening the edges before it dries. Do that and it hangs flat. Skip it and you'll be ironing creases out later.
A blanket that looks deliberate folded over the arm of the sofa, not like laundry you didn't put away.
Most household blankets are bought for warmth and then hidden, because they look like what they are — a lump of fleece in a color nobody chose. This one is the opposite problem solved. The ornamental garden motif is woven through the cloth, so it reads as pattern from across the room and as texture up close. It earns its place on the back of a chair between uses, which means it's actually within reach when the evening turns cold, instead of folded in a cupboard down the hall.

Woven, not printed — which is the whole difference
A printed blanket has its design stamped onto finished cloth. It looks sharp in photographs and fades in a year, and the reverse side is blank. This one is woven: the garden motif is built from the yarn itself as the cloth is made, so the pattern goes all the way through and appears in reverse on the back. That structure is why it drapes with weight rather than floating, and why the design doesn't crack or thin out along the fold lines where a print always goes first.
Cotton is the other half of it. It breathes, so it works in a warm room without turning clammy the way a synthetic throw does after twenty minutes. It also gets better with washing — the weave relaxes, the hand softens, and by the third or fourth wash it has the settled, slightly lived-in feel that a new blanket never has on day one.
- 59"×79" — sofa scale. Long enough to cover you from shoulder to ankle if you're lying down, and it folds into a neat rectangle over a chair arm without swallowing the chair.
- 79"×91" — bed scale. Reads as a proper coverlet on a full or queen, with enough overhang on each side that the pattern is visible from the doorway rather than only from directly above.
