Which Size — across the bed, or over it?

The two sizes do two different jobs on the same bed. Decide whether you want the blanket to be the layer you sleep under or the layer that finishes the bed when it is made.

Choose If this sounds like you
59"×79" You want it folded across the foot of a double or queen, or you want a blanket for one person on the sofa with the tassels hanging over the arm.
79"×91" You want it to be the top layer of a made bed — covering the mattress width with a fall down both sides so the tassels sit clear of the frame.

The two Colours are genuinely different in temperature: Dusty Rose Bloom warms a cool room, Cream Blossom keeps a bright one light.

Cotton and tassels — what do I need to know before the first wash?

Cotton shrinks a little on its first hot wash, and tassels tangle in a hot dryer. Both are avoidable and both are permanent if you get them wrong.

Works Avoid
Cool gentle machine wash, on its own, especially the first time. Hot water. Cotton takes up most of its lifetime shrinkage in one hot cycle, and you cannot get the length back.
Line drying, ideally flat or over a wide rail. A hot tumble dry, which felts the tassel ends into hard knots you then have to cut off.
Combing the fringe out with your fingers while it is still damp. Bleach and softener — one attacks the floral colour, the other flattens the cotton's texture.

If a tassel starts to unravel, knot it at the base rather than trimming into it. Cutting a tassel short shortens the whole row visually, and one obviously trimmed tassel is more noticeable than one slightly frayed one.

The bed looks made even on the mornings you did not make it.

A duvet on its own always looks slightly unfinished. It is one big rectangle, usually plain, and any dent or crease reads as unmade. That is why hotel rooms put something across the foot of the bed — it gives the eye somewhere to land and it makes the whole arrangement look intentional. The Orchid Trail does that job, and unlike a purely decorative runner it is a real blanket, so it gets pulled up on cold nights instead of being dumped on a chair.

Orchid Trail Floral Cotton Tassel Bed Blanket in use on a bed

Cotton is the right fibre for a bed layer, and here is the unglamorous reason

Synthetic throws are warm and cheap, and they have one flaw that shows up at 2am: they do not breathe. Heat builds up, moisture has nowhere to go, and you wake up clammy and throw it off. Cotton moves moisture rather than holding it, so an extra cotton layer adds warmth without changing how the bed feels to sleep in. It is also the fibre that gets better with washing — cotton softens as the fibres relax, so the blanket you have in a year is nicer than the one that arrives.

The tassels are not just trim. They finish the raw edge, which is what stops a woven blanket from fraying inward along the ends, and they give the piece a soft outline against the hard line of a mattress edge or a sofa arm.

The two colourways

  • Dusty Rose Bloom — muted pink ground with the orchid trail running through it. Warms up a bedroom with grey or white walls and a lot of daylight, and reads as colour without shouting. The one to pick if the room currently feels a bit cold and hotel-like.
  • Cream Blossom — pale cream with the floral in soft tonal contrast. Almost neutral from the doorway. Choose this one if the bedding is already patterned, or if the bedroom is small and you do not want to lose the light.
