On pilling: the small bobbles that appear where a scarf rubs against a coat collar are friction, not a fault, and they are the bit everyone gets wrong. The bees are small and regularly spaced, which keeps it from tipping into novelty territory — from across a street it looks like a textured neutral, and only close up does it resolve into something specific.
The other advantage of a small repeating motif is that it survives folding. Big single-image scarves look wrong the moment you loop them, because half the design ends up inside the knot.
