Designer tip: mount your rod 4–6" above the window frame and extend it 3–6" past each side. The curtains overlap the frame edges, which is what stops light leaking round the sides.
How dark it gets
A dense triple-weave fabric that blocks up to 90% of daylight. The darker the color, the darker the room: Black, Navy Blue, Dark Grey, Burgundy and Teal Green give the deepest dark for sleeping and screens. White, Beige, Blush Pink and Yellow cut glare and heat but let a soft glow through.
