Which size, and do I want the Oval or the Square?

Measure the bare strip of floor where you actually stand, not the whole bathroom. The mat wants to sit under both feet with a few inches spare on each side — anything bigger just gets kicked into the vanity kickboard.

Choose If this sounds like you
16" × 24" A narrow ensuite or a rental bathroom where the door swings inward and clears the floor by about an inch.
20" × 32" The default. Long enough to step out of the shower and dry off standing in one spot without hitting cold tile.
24" × 35" A shared family bathroom, or a bath you climb out of sideways and drip along the length of.

Oval softens a room full of straight lines — rectangular tub, rectangular vanity, rectangular tile. Square lines up flush with a shower base or a tub edge, which is what you want if you like the mat to look deliberate rather than dropped.

Two mats — one by the shower, one by the basin — is a common order for a bathroom two people share.

Will it slide, and will it stay damp?

Grip depends almost entirely on what is underneath it. Here is where it behaves and where it will skate.

Works on Avoid
Matte ceramic and porcelain tile, vinyl plank, sealed concrete, textured stone. Polished marble, high-gloss tile, and the inside of a tub or shower base — this is a floor mat, not a tub mat.
Sitting flat on a dry floor before the first use. Laying it on top of another rug, which lets both of them move.

Care: shake it out, machine wash cool with like colors, and hang it to dry. The step people skip is drying it properly — a mat left folded over a rail dries in the crease last and that is where the smell starts. Open it out flat or hang it over a full-width bar.

Step out of the shower onto something that has already dealt with yesterday's puddle.

Most bathroom floors have one permanent wet patch. You shower, you step out, the towel-sized thing on the floor soaks through in four seconds, and for the rest of the day there is a cold damp rectangle you keep standing on in socks. Then someone else showers on top of it. The Night Sky mat is built around the opposite habit: it pulls the water off your feet, holds it in the pile rather than passing it straight to the tile, and gives it back to the air instead of to your socks.

The pile is doing the work, and it is why cheap mats fail

A thin flat mat has nowhere to put the water, so it wets through and stays wet. This one is deep-piled, which does two things at once. It gives the water somewhere to go — down into the mat, away from the surface your feet are on — and it holds enough air between the fibres that the mat can dry itself out between showers instead of sitting soaked until laundry day. It is also the difference you feel on the first step: warm and slightly springy underfoot rather than the cold slap of a wet flat mat on tile.

The four colorways

  • Vase Harmony — soft shapes on a pale ground. The safe pick for a bathroom with white tile and timber, where a dark mat would read as a hole in the floor.
  • Moonlit Night — deep and low-contrast. Chosen by people whose bathroom is grey, black-tapware, or otherwise leaning moody, and who do not want to see every speck of lint.
  • Palm Serenity — green and leafy. Works if you already have plants on the windowsill and a bit of colour going on; it looks strange in a completely white room.
  • Desert Mirage — warm sand and clay tones. The one that makes a beige-tile bathroom look intentional rather than dated.
