Is gauze warm enough, or is it just a summer thing?
Layered cotton gauze traps air between the layers, so it insulates without weight. It's a genuinely different kind of warm from a heavy fleece, and worth understanding before you order.

To care for it: cool gentle machine wash, low tumble, and take it out while it's still very slightly damp. The step people skip is that last one — gauze over-dried in a hot machine goes stiff and takes several washes to recover, whereas pulled out slightly damp it settles soft as it finishes on a rail.
Never use fabric softener on gauze. It flattens the layers and takes the airiness out of it. Skip it and the blanket gets softer on its own with every wash.
