Which size should I get?

Does the seersucker texture survive washing?
The crinkle is woven in, not pressed in, so it does not iron out or wash flat. Seersucker gets its pucker from the weave itself, which is also why it never needs ironing — the wrinkles are the point.

The step people skip: washing it once before first use. Cotton relaxes on the first cycle, and that is when the seersucker texture really comes up.

Why the matelassé weave is the part that lasts
Matelassé is a compound weave — the raised pattern is built into the cloth on the loom rather than quilted on afterwards with stitching and batting. There is no filling to migrate into one corner, no quilting thread to pop, and nothing to bunch after the fifth wash. That is the difference between a blanket that still lies flat in year three and one that has gone lumpy at the foot. It also means the whole thing is one layer of cotton: breathable enough for a warm night, substantial enough that you feel it settle when you pull it up.
