Which size — one person on the couch, or something that covers a bed?

Same swirl, same soft face, three very different footprints. Think about where it will spend most of its time rather than the one night a year it might need to stretch further.

Choose If this sounds like you
39"×59" A lap blanket for an armchair, a desk chair in a cold room, or a child's bed. Small enough that it stays where you left it instead of trailing on the floor.
59"×79" The classic sofa throw. One adult fully covered from shoulders to feet, or folded across the end of a double bed.
79"×91" Two of you on the same sofa, or you want it to cover a double or queen bed properly rather than sitting on it like a runner.

The most common regret with throws is going one size down. Nobody has ever complained about too much blanket.

How do I keep it soft instead of matted?

A plush blanket that has gone flat is almost always a heat casualty, not a wear one.

Works Avoid
Cold gentle machine wash, on its own. Tumble on the lowest setting or line dry, then shake it out hard before folding. Hot water and hot drying — heat is what flattens a raised pile permanently. Ironing, obviously. And washing it with towels, which shed lint straight into the surface.

Give it a proper shake out of the machine and again once dry — that is what lifts the pile back up and brings the carved swirl into relief again. The step people skip: fabric softener. It feels like the right instinct for a soft blanket and it is exactly wrong; softener coats each fibre, weighs the pile down, and turns a plush surface slick and flat within a few washes.

Wash it separately for the first cycle or two — new pile sheds a little, and it will find every dark garment in the drum.

The throw everyone in the house fights over, in a colour you actually chose.

There is always one blanket in a home that is genuinely the good one, and it is never the decorative one folded neatly on the ottoman. It is the soft one, and the reason it never looks tidy is that somebody is always using it. The trade normally is that soft throws are plain and dull to look at, so the good blanket is also the ugly blanket. This one is carved with a marble swirl worked into the pile itself, so the pattern is a texture you can see from the doorway and feel under your hand. It earns its place on the sofa when nobody is under it.

The swirl is carved into the pile, which is why it survives being used

A pattern printed on a plush surface is on borrowed time. The pile moves every time someone sits on it, so the print smears at the edges, and after a winter of real use you are looking at a soft blanket with a smudge on it. Carving is different: the design is cut into the depth of the pile, so the pattern is made of shadow and height rather than colour. Crush it, wash it, sit on it for six hours — shake it out and the swirl comes back, because it is structural. The other thing carving does is stop the blanket looking flat. A single-colour plush throw reads as a slab of fabric from across the room; a carved surface catches light differently along each curve of the swirl, which is what gives it the depth of actual stone. And the practical upside of a raised, sculpted surface is that it does not show every crease and sit-mark the way a flat plush does.

The two colourways

  • Blush Quartz — soft warm pink with paler swirl running through it. Reads much closer to a warm neutral than to pink from a few feet away, which is why it works on a grey or cream sofa without committing the whole room to a colour scheme. The one for a bedroom.
  • Emerald Vein — deep green with the swirl picked out in lighter tones. Rich under lamplight and considerably more of a statement, so it suits a living room with dark wood, brass or navy already in it. It is also the better pick if the blanket is going to live in the room you use most — marks and use show far less on it.
