Which size — sofa, bed, or the whole bed?

The three sizes are not three versions of the same thing; they are three different jobs. Gauze is light, so a big one is no harder to handle than a small one — the question is only how much you want covered.

Choose If this sounds like you
59"×79" It lives on the sofa for summer evenings, or goes across the end of a bed as the layer you pull up at four in the morning.
79"×91" You want to sleep under it instead of a duvet through the warm months, on a double, with enough to tuck over both people.
91"×98" A bigger bed, or you want real drop down both sides so it reads as proper bedding rather than a blanket laid on top.

One person who runs hot and one who runs cold is the classic case for the largest size — there is enough of it for one of you to be half out from under it.

Is a gauze blanket actually warm enough?

It is warm in the way a shirt is warm rather than the way a duvet is. Layered cotton gauze traps a thin cushion of air without sealing heat in, so it takes the edge off a cool room and never turns into the sweaty half hour that ends with a leg out of the bed. Knowing which side of that line you need is the whole decision.

Right for Wrong for
Warm months, hot sleepers, night sweats, a stuffy upstairs bedroom, air conditioning that overcorrects, and children who kick everything off anyway. A cold house in midwinter as your only cover. Also rough surfaces, cat claws and rings worn to bed — an open weave snags where a dense one would not.

Wash cool and tumble low or air dry. The step people skip: do not use fabric softener. Gauze gets soft by being washed, not by being coated, and softener fills the weave that makes it breathe in the first place. Expect it to arrive crisp and reach its best somewhere around wash five.

Covered without being cooked.

Summer sleep goes wrong in a specific sequence. Too hot with the duvet, too exposed without it, so you compromise with a sheet — which slides off, tangles round one ankle, and has all the presence of a piece of paper. What you actually want is something with a bit of weight and drape that still lets air through: enough to feel covered, not enough to hold heat against you. That is what layered cotton gauze does, and it is the entire reason this blanket exists.

Why gauze drapes differently to everything else

Cotton gauze is woven open and built in layers, which gives it a property no other summer bedding has: it collapses. A cotton sheet lies flat and slides; a waffle blanket holds its shape and sits above you. Gauze falls into the space around you and stays there, so it feels like being covered rather than being under something. That same open structure is why it dries quickly after a wash, why it packs down small enough to keep in a basket by the sofa all summer, and why a leafy floral works so well printed on it — the pattern breaks across the crinkled surface instead of sitting on it as a flat sheet of ink, so it reads soft and slightly faded from the first day rather than looking like a printed bedsheet.

The three colourways

  • Floral Bliss — the fullest of the three. Flowers across most of the surface, warm-toned, and the one that carries a plain white bedroom on its own.
  • Lavender Fields — soft purple with the leafy floral running through it. Calmer at a distance, and the easiest to live with in a room that already has pattern in the curtains.
  • Mint Meadow — cool green. Reads coolest of the three, which matters if you are buying this specifically to survive July.
