Which size, and does the colour matter?
Colour is taste and you cannot get it wrong. Size is the one worth thinking about for thirty seconds. The difference between the two is almost entirely length, and length is what decides whether your feet stay covered.

Do the tassels survive a wash?
They do, but only if you stop them getting wrapped around each other in the drum. Tassels almost never break — they tangle, and then people pull them apart, and that is what does the damage.

The step people skip is combing the fringe out before it dries. Sixty seconds with your fingers while the blanket is still damp and the tassels dry straight. Skip it and they set into whatever tangled shape they came out of the machine in, and no amount of brushing afterwards fully fixes it.

What the knit is doing that a woven throw is not
A knitted blanket is made of interlocking loops, and those loops hold air. That air is the insulation — the yarn itself does very little. It is why a knit throw at a given weight is noticeably warmer than a flat woven one, and why it keeps stretching and moving with you instead of sitting on top like a sheet. Pull a knit across your shoulders and it follows the shape; do the same with a woven throw and it tents.
The tassels are not just decoration either. A knitted edge has to be finished or it unravels, and a tasselled fringe is a finish that puts the weight at the very edge of the blanket. That weight is why the corners hang straight down over a couch arm rather than curling up, which is the small difference between a throw that looks arranged and one that looks dumped.
