Which size, and which colour — and does either one matter?

Will a tufted mat go flat and matted?
Tufted pile flattens from being walked on while wet and left to dry crushed — not from washing. The fix is undramatic and takes seconds, and it is the difference between a mat that stays plush and one that looks tired by spring.
