Will the tassels tangle, and will the runner slide?
Tassels tangle in the wash, not on the table. Sliding is a surface question. Both are easy to manage once you know which one applies to you.

When you wash it, put it in a pillowcase with the end tied. That is the step everybody skips, and it is the only reason tasselled runners come out of the machine as a knot.

There is a particular problem with dining tables that nobody warns you about: outside mealtimes, a big empty table is just a large flat expanse in the middle of the room. It collects post, car keys and the thing you meant to take upstairs, and it looks like unclaimed space. A runner fixes that by giving the table a centre line — suddenly there is a place where the candles and the fruit bowl belong, and the rest of the surface reads as deliberately clear rather than merely empty.
Why embroidery and not print, on something that gets this much use
A table runner takes more abuse than any other piece of soft furnishing in the house. Hot plates land on it, wine goes on it, it gets pulled straight and pushed crooked several times a day. A printed floral under those conditions wears at the exact places you look at most — the centre, where the dishes go. The pigment abrades off the raised fibres first, so the design goes patchy in the middle while the ends still look new.
Embroidered floral work does not have that failure mode, because the pattern is thread running through the cloth rather than color sitting on it. Rubbing does not remove it. What you get instead is a design with actual relief — light catches the raised stitching at an angle, which is why an embroidered runner looks like something on a table at dusk with candles on it, and a printed one just looks flat. The tassels at each end finish the drop; without them a runner stops abruptly at the table edge and looks cut off.
