I received the blanket and expected it to be thicker. But it's very soft and pleasant to the touch. It's also very warm. I'm happy with my purchase and would recommend it.
Size first, color second — because the size decides whether this is a throw or a blanket. The three sizes here are genuinely different objects in use, not just incremental steps.
| Choose | If this sounds like you |
|---|---|
| 39"×59" | You want the one that lives on the arm of the sofa and gets pulled over your legs while you watch something. One person, sitting up, feet tucked. |
| 59"×79" | You want to be able to lie down flat under it and still be covered to the shoulders. The one to buy if the sofa is where you actually fall asleep. |
| 79"×91" | It is going on a bed as a top layer, or two people share it and you are tired of the negotiation. Wide enough to hang over both sides rather than sit on top like a stripe. |
The colors — Sapphire, Silver Grey and Sand — all carry the same leaf design, so pick on room, not on pattern.
Sherpa mats when it is washed hot or tumbled hot — almost never from use. The pile is what you are paying for, so the care instructions here are less housekeeping advice and more the difference between a two-year blanket and a two-month one.
| Works | Avoid |
|---|---|
| Cold wash, gentle cycle, washed on its own or with other soft items. | Warm or hot water, which is what actually welds sherpa fibres together. |
| Tumble on the lowest heat, or air dry over a rail with the sherpa side out. | High-heat drying, and fabric softener — it coats the pile and flattens it. |
| Washing with zips and buttons kept out of the load. | Sharing a load with towels, which shed lint straight into the pile. |
The step people skip: shake it out hard while it is still damp. Thirty seconds of that lifts the pile back up and saves you the flat, pressed look that dried-in-a-heap sherpa always gets.
The problem with most throws is that they are one thing. Either they are handsome and thin — nice on the sofa, useless the moment you are actually cold — or they are warm and look like something from a motel. So you end up owning both, and the warm one lives folded out of sight because it is embarrassing. A two-sided blanket ends that: patterned face out when it is folded on the sofa, sherpa side in when you pull it over yourself.

Sherpa works by holding a layer of still air inside a looped pile. That is a genuinely different mechanism from a heavy woven blanket, which warms you by sheer mass. The practical consequence is that this gets warm fast — within a minute or two of being over you — rather than the slow build you get from something dense. It is why people reach for a sherpa throw at 9pm when the heating has gone off, instead of turning the heating back on.
The leaf-patterned face on the other side does the other half of the job. It gives the blanket a front, which means it can be folded and left in view without looking like laundry. And because the pattern side is smooth rather than piled, it slides over itself when folded and stacks flat in a basket instead of ballooning.
