Which size — 59"×79" or 79"×91"?
Work backwards from where it will live, not from what your bed is called. The dotted diamond pattern looks right at either scale; the only question is how much of it you want to see.
| Choose | If this sounds like you |
|---|---|
| 59"×79" | This is the throw for the reading chair, the one that goes over your knees while you work from the sofa, or the layer folded across the foot of a made bed for looks. |
| 79"×91" | Two of you share it. You want it wide enough that nobody has to negotiate for a corner, and long enough to still cover feet at 6am. |
If you're buying it as a gift and don't know the room, the smaller one is the safer guess.
Will the dot texture flatten out after a few washes?
The dots are structural, so no — but heat is the thing that will ruin them. The relief comes from how the cotton is worked, not from stuffing that can migrate or a finish that can wash off.
| Works on | Avoid |
|---|---|
| Cool or warm machine wash, gentle cycle | Hot washes, which shrink cotton unevenly and pull the pattern out of square |
| Low tumble, or dried flat over a rail | A hot dryer, which presses the raised dots down permanently |
| Spot cleaning a spill straight away with cool water | Bleach on the paler Blue, Pink and Khaki |
The step almost everyone skips: don't iron it. A hot plate on a textured cotton blanket flattens the exact thing you paid for, and it does not come back.
Texture you can feel in the dark, on a blanket you can throw in the machine.
The blanket problem in most houses is that the nice one isn't washable and the washable one isn't nice. So the good throw stays folded on a chair as decoration while everybody actually uses the scratchy fleece that came free with something. This is cotton with a dotted diamond relief running across it — the sort of surface you find yourself running a thumb over while watching television — and it goes in the machine when someone spills tea on it.

What the dotted diamond grid is actually doing
The pattern isn't decoration laid on a flat blanket. Working the cotton into a raised diamond grid of dots pulls the surface into three dimensions, and those small peaks and valleys hold air against you the same way a waffle weave does. That's why a textured cotton blanket feels warmer than a flat one of identical weight, and why it doesn't get the sticky, airless feel of a synthetic throw once you've been under it an hour.
It also decides how the blanket ages. Flat woven cotton shows every crease and every worn patch on the arm of a sofa. A dotted relief breaks up the surface, so wrinkles vanish into the texture and the blanket looks presentable even on a day it has been dragged around the house.
The five colours, honestly
- Blue — soft and dusty rather than nautical. The one that works in a kid's room and a grown-up bedroom without looking like it's in the wrong one.
- Pink — a warm muted rose. Reads as a neutral against wood and cream, which is not what people expect from pink.
- Khaki — greenish sand. The best of the five at hiding a dog, a toddler, or a week of use between washes.
- Gray — the default for a reason. Sits under everything, argues with nothing, and shows the dot texture most clearly because there's no colour competing with the shadow.
- Dark Brown — the deep one. Choose it for a leather sofa or a dim room where pale throws look washed out and faintly grubby.
