Is this a picnic blanket or a blanket blanket?
It is both, and that is the actual reason to buy it rather than a plastic-backed picnic rug. It comes in one design and one size, so the only decision left is whether it suits how you plan to use it.
| Choose it | If this sounds like you |
|---|---|
| For outdoors | Beach days, park concerts, the sideline of a kids' game. You want something you can shake out, fold damp, and not feel precious about. |
| For indoors | You want a lightweight throw over the end of a bed or a sofa arm in summer, in a room that already has blue in it. |
| For the car | You want one blanket living in the boot permanently, for whatever the day turns into. |
Most people buy it for one of these and end up using it for all three.
Will it survive sand, grass and a washing machine?
Yes, and the sand part is the one people care about most. The flat woven surface does not have deep pile for grit to bury itself in, so a good shake gets most of it off before you fold.
| Works on | Avoid |
|---|---|
| Dry sand, mown grass, decking, picnic tables, gravel campsites, the back of a car, a sofa or a bed | Soaked ground or wet sand — there is no waterproof backing, so moisture comes through. Put a groundsheet under it, or pick a drier patch |
Care is a cold machine wash on a gentle cycle, then line dry. Shake it out hard before it goes in the machine. That is the step people skip, and it is the reason a sandy blanket comes out of the wash still faintly gritty — the grit ends up in the drum and gets pressed back into the weave on the spin.
The blanket that stops living in the linen cupboard and starts living in the car.
The blanket you take to the beach is usually the oldest one you own. It is the one with the pilled corner and the mystery stain, because nobody wants to put a nice blanket on the ground. So you end up sitting on something you do not like, at a place you chose specifically because it is beautiful. This is the blanket that fixes that — good enough to be seen with, cheap enough in feeling that you will actually let it touch grass.
Why a flat weave beats a fluffy one outdoors
Outdoor blankets fail on packing and grit, not on warmth. A plush or sherpa throw looks inviting in the cupboard and then swallows sand, takes two days to dry, and fills half a tote bag. This one is woven flat, which changes all three of those. Debris sits on the surface instead of working down into pile, so shaking actually does something. It folds down small enough to sit under a cooler bag rather than on top of everything. And because there is less loft holding water, a blanket that got dewy at a twilight picnic is dry by lunchtime the next day instead of going musty in a bag.
The tasselled edges are finished rather than raw-cut, which is what stops an outdoor blanket unravelling from the corner after a season of being dragged, shaken and stuffed into bags.
- The daisy pattern, outdoors — blue and white reads clean against grass and sand, and it is the rare pattern that does not look tired after a season of sun.
- The daisy pattern, indoors — folded over the foot of a bed it behaves like a summer coverlet. It sits easily in a room with navy, denim, natural timber or white-painted furniture.
- The boho border — the tassel trim is what keeps it from looking like a utility rug when it is on a sofa rather than on the ground.
- The weight — light enough to be a layer on a warm night, not a winter blanket. If you want something to survive July in a room without air conditioning, this is the right end of the scale.
What You're Getting
- One Blue Daisy Bloom travel blanket in the blue and white daisy design, with finished tassel edges
- Flat woven construction that sheds sand and grass with a shake instead of holding it in pile
- Folds compact enough to live permanently in a car boot or a beach bag
- Doubles as an indoor summer throw for a bed end or a sofa arm
- Tasselled trim bound at the edge so the corners do not unravel with repeated shaking
- No waterproof backing — use a groundsheet underneath on damp ground
- Care: cold gentle machine wash, line dry, shake thoroughly before washing
- Do not tumble dry on high — heat is what shrinks the weave and shortens the tassels
