51"×67" or 59"×79"?

Both are throw sizes rather than bed sizes — the choice is about how much of you it has to cover. The tassels sit on the short ends either way, so the drop over a sofa arm looks the same.

Choose If this sounds like you
51"×67" An armchair, a reading corner, or a decorative layer folded across the end of a bed that isn't meant to cover anyone.
59"×79" Lying full-length on the sofa without your feet sticking out the bottom, or covering a single bed.

If someone in the house is over six foot, the answer is the larger one.

Am I supposed to iron the crinkle out?

No — the crinkle is the finish, not creasing. Pressing it flat is the one thing that will make this blanket look worse, and it doesn't fully come back.

Works Avoid
Cold gentle wash, mild detergent, low or no heat drying, hanging it to air, shaking it out and letting it fall into its own texture, combing the tassels straight with your fingers. Ironing, steaming, hot washes, fabric softener, washing it loose with zips or hooks that catch the fringe, wringing the tassels out by twisting.

Wash it in a mesh bag if you can, and finger-comb the tassels while they're still damp before you hang it up. Tassels dry into whatever tangle they land in, and once they've set matted you can only brush them out by breaking fibres. That's the step people skip.

Cotton you can actually wash, on a blanket that looks like linen.

The expensive-looking throws in interiors photographs are usually linen, and linen has a hidden cost: it creases if you look at it, and it costs a fortune to replace when someone's dog sleeps on it. A crinkle-finish cotton gets to the same place from the other direction. The texture is deliberate, so creasing isn't a problem it can have, and it goes through a normal wash cycle without an argument. It looks like the throw you'd be careful with, and behaves like the one you aren't.

Why the crinkle changes how it feels, not just how it looks

A crinkle finish means the cloth isn't lying flat against itself. That puckered surface holds tiny air gaps between the fabric and your skin, which is why a crinkled cotton throw feels light and airy rather than clammy — it doesn't sit on you like a sheet. It's the same reason a seersucker shirt is comfortable in heat.

It also makes the blanket essentially unwrinkleable, which is the practical part. Flat cotton comes out of a wash needing to be folded carefully or ironed; this comes out, gets shaken, and is finished. And the tassels are the warp threads knotted off at the ends rather than a trim sewn on, so the finish is holding the weave closed as well as looking like something someone made.

What each colour does in a room

  • Midnight Blue — deep and cool. The one that anchors a pale room, and the strongest contrast against a cream or oatmeal sofa.
  • Sand — warm pale neutral. It disappears into a natural-toned room and shows the crinkle texture more clearly than any of the darker colours.
  • Cream — the softest and lightest. Best on a bed rather than a high-traffic sofa, and the pick for a bedroom that's meant to feel calm.
  • Ash Grey — the neutral that isn't beige. It works with grey and blue upholstery where a warm tone would look off.
  • Clay — a muted earthy terracotta. The most colour of the six without becoming a bright, and it sits well with timber and plants.
  • Black Tea — the darkest warm tone. Rich and slightly brown rather than flat black, and the most forgiving of everyday use.
