59"×79" or 79"×91"?

Same blanket, same maze pattern — the only variable is how much of it there is. Work out whether it's for one person under it or a bed it has to cover.

Choose If this sounds like you
59"×79" One person on the sofa, a single bed, or a blanket that lives folded over an armchair and gets grabbed on cool evenings.
79"×91" Covering a double bed properly, or two adults on a sofa who both want an edge to hold onto.

The maze pattern reads better at the larger size — there's room for the geometry to repeat.

Is pure cotton warm enough, or too warm?

Cotton is the fibre that works in both directions, which is the reason to choose it. It insulates when you're cold and lets heat out when you're not — unlike synthetic fleece, which only does one of those.

Works for Look elsewhere if
Year-round use, hot sleepers, layering over a duvet in winter and using alone in summer, anyone who overheats under fleece, households where the blanket gets washed constantly. You want deep fluffy loft for a genuinely cold room, or a weighted blanket. Cotton is warm, not thick.

Wash it cold and dry it on low. Cotton shrinks with heat rather than with water, so a hot cycle is the one thing that will change the size of it — and once a cotton blanket has shrunk, it stays shrunk. That's the step people skip, usually once.

A blanket that gets better every time you wash it.

Most blankets have a lifespan measured in washes. The fleece one goes bobbly and slightly crisp, and you can date it by how much it's lost. Cotton runs the opposite way: the fibres relax and soften each cycle, so the blanket you own in three years is the same one, only better, and you stop being precious about it. Which matters, because the whole point of a blanket is that somebody can eat toast under it.

Why the maze pattern is doing structural work

A maze is a continuous interlocking line, and woven into cloth that has a real consequence: the design is built from threads changing direction across the whole surface, which creates a denser, more locked structure than a plain weave. That's why a geometric-woven cotton blanket holds its shape and its edges instead of stretching out of square after a year on a bed.

It also means the pattern exists on both faces, in reverse. There's no printed side and plain side, so you can throw it over a sofa any way up and it looks deliberate. And because pure cotton takes dye right through the fibre rather than sitting on the surface, the colour in the maze doesn't go patchy where the blanket gets folded and rubbed most.

What each colour does in a room

  • Blue — the coolest and the easiest to live with. It reads as a considered choice on a grey or navy sofa and works in a bedroom without warming the room up.
  • Purple — the most unusual of the four. It's for a room that's otherwise neutral and needs one object with an opinion, and it sits surprisingly well with warm timber.
  • Grey — the one to buy if you don't want to think about it. The maze pattern shows as tone-on-tone texture rather than as colour, so it works anywhere.
  • Red — warm and confident. Best in a room with a lot of white or cream in it, where it becomes the thing your eye lands on.
