Which size do I actually need?

Decide where it's going to live before you pick. All three are the same blanket — the size only changes whether it's a personal layer, a bed cover, or something two people can genuinely share.

Choose If this sounds like you
39"×59" One person in an armchair, a blanket for the home office that stays over the back of the chair, or a child's bed.
59"×79" The sofa blanket. Long enough to cover you head to toe lying down, and enough width that your feet don't come out the side.
79"×91" Going on a double bed as a top layer, or two adults sharing it on a big sofa without either of them losing.

The most common regret with a fluffy blanket is going one size too small. It's never the other way round.

Will it go flat and matted after a few washes?

A raised, three-dimensional pile stays lofty or goes flat depending almost entirely on heat. Wash it wrong once and you can't bring the loft back.

Works Avoid
Cold gentle wash on its own, mild detergent, tumble drying on low or no heat, shaking it out hard before it goes on the bed, airing it over a bannister. Hot water, fabric softener, high-heat drying, ironing it, washing it in with towels, cramming it into a full drum.

Wash it by itself with nothing abrasive in the drum, and shake it out properly while it's still slightly damp. The shake is what lifts the pile back up before it dries — it's the step everyone skips, and it's the difference between a blanket that stays fluffy for years and one that's flat by February.

The blanket you reach for, not the one that stays folded on the shelf.

Most houses own two kinds of blanket. The good one, which lives in a cupboard, comes out when people visit, and is too nice to eat toast under. And the actual one — thin, bobbled, faintly grey — which is on the sofa every night because nobody minds what happens to it. A deep-pile blanket in a colour that suits the room collapses that into one object: warm enough to be the default, and washable enough that you stop treating it as an ornament.

Why three-dimensional pile is warmer than thick cloth

Warmth in a blanket isn't about the amount of material, it's about trapped air. Still air is a genuinely good insulator; moving air isn't. A flat, dense weave has nowhere to hold air, so it warms you only by being heavy. A raised three-dimensional surface builds thousands of small pockets between the tufts, each one holding a little still air against you — which is why a lofty blanket feels warmer than a heavier flat one, and why it doesn't feel like being pinned down.

That structure is also why the pile matters more than the colour when you're judging quality. Loft that springs back when you press a hand into it is doing the insulating work. Loft that stays dented has already matted, and no amount of washing brings it back — which is exactly why the heat rules in the care box matter more here than on an ordinary blanket.

What each colour does in a room

  • Olive Cream — a soft, greened neutral. It warms up a room with a lot of white in it and sits well with timber and houseplants, without committing you to a colour scheme.
  • Pink Blush — muted rather than sweet. It's the one that makes a plain grey sofa look intentional, and reads as warm in the evening under lamplight.
  • Cozy Mocha — the deepest and the most forgiving. Best in a room that already has leather, dark wood or brown tones, and the least likely of the four to show everyday use.
  • Misty Grey — the safe default, in the good sense. It goes with whatever you already own and doesn't compete with a patterned rug or curtains.
