Will a printed towel go stiff or fade?
Cotton towels almost never fail from wear — they fail from what gets put in the machine with them. Two things to get right and one thing everybody does wrong.

Wash before first use — the first wash is what opens the cotton loops up and roughly doubles how much water the towel picks up.
The step people skip: fabric softener. It leaves a waxy film on the loops, and a towel that smells lovely and slides water straight off your arm is a towel you have ruined.

The standard towel situation is four survivors of different ages in four shades of not-quite-white, one of them slightly grey, hung on a rail in no particular order. It works. It also makes an otherwise fine bathroom look like a rental.

Why cotton is the part that matters
A towel has one job, which is moving water off skin and holding it. Cotton does that because the fibre is naturally absorbent all the way through rather than just passing water along its surface — which is why a cotton towel feels like it is drying you and a synthetic one feels like it is smearing you.
It also matters for the print. Cotton takes dye into the fibre, so a floral on cotton keeps its edges through repeated washing instead of going chalky and vague the way a print sitting on top of a synthetic pile does. That is the difference between a towel that still looks deliberate in a year and one you quietly demote to the car.
Which color, and where it lands
- Yellow — warm and daylight-ish. Does the most work in a bathroom with no window or a north-facing one, where everything otherwise reads cold. This is the one that makes a white tiled room feel awake at 6am.
- Green — cooler and calmer, the floral sitting quieter against the ground. Better if there is already wood, plants or brass in the room, and the safer pick for a guest bathroom you want to look considered rather than cheerful.
