50"×60" or 59"×79"?

Faux fur has real bulk, so a size that sounds generous on paper covers less than you expect once it is wrapped around someone. Both sizes are the same pile and the same backing — you are choosing between a throw and something two people can share.

Choose If this sounds like you
50"×60" It is mostly staying on the armchair or across the end of the bed, and coming off for one person on a cold evening.
59"×79" Two of you on the couch, or one person who wants to be fully cocooned with nothing sticking out the bottom.

The smaller one styles better on a chair. The larger one is the one that gets fought over.

Faux fur has a reputation. Will this one shed and clump?

Faux fur is destroyed by two things and neither of them is normal use: heat and agitation. Keep both low and the pile stays long and separated instead of welding itself into clumps.

Works Avoid
Cold gentle wash alone, small amount of mild liquid detergent, air dry flat away from radiators, then brush the pile through with your fingers or a wide-tooth comb Hot water, any dryer heat above the lowest setting, ironing, bleach, fabric softener, and washing it with towels or anything with a zip

Between washes it mostly needs shaking outdoors. A firm shake lifts the pile and drops out whatever the couch has contributed that week.

The step people skip: combing the pile out after it dries. Faux fur dries lying in whatever direction it was left, and a two-minute comb-through is the entire difference between plush and bedraggled.

The one thing in the room that people touch before they sit down.

Every living room has a throw. Most of them are thin, slightly scratchy, and folded into a neat rectangle that nobody disturbs because using it is faintly disappointing. It is decoration pretending to be a blanket.

Faux fur goes the other way. It has genuine loft — a deep, long pile that sits proud of the sofa arm and does not fold into a flat rectangle no matter how you try. It looks like something, and then it turns out to actually be warm, which is not the usual order of events.

Why pile length is the whole argument

Long-pile faux fur holds warmth the same way an animal coat does: the fibres stand apart from each other and trap a layer of air against whatever is underneath. That is why a faux fur throw feels warm almost immediately rather than needing a few minutes to heat up — it is insulating with air, not with mass.

Pile length also decides how it looks over time. Short synthetic pile mats down into a felted surface within a season. A long pile has room to move, so even after it is crushed by someone sitting on it, the fibres separate again when you shake it. The backing matters just as much: fur is only as good as what holds it, and a backing with some give lets the blanket drape over a chair arm in a soft fall rather than standing up like a rug.

Which colour, honestly

  • Charcoal — deep grey, the most modern-looking of the six. Reads sleek rather than cosy, and the most forgiving in daily use.
  • White — the bright, high-contrast one. Spectacular on a dark sofa and completely unsuited to a house with a shedding dog.
  • Off White — the warmer, softer version of the above. Slightly creamy, less clinical, and it hides ordinary living far better than true white does.
  • Brown — rich and dark, the closest to an old-fashioned fur look. Best against tan leather or a dark wood frame.
  • Caramel — lighter and warmer than Brown, with more golden tone. The one that makes a beige room look intentional instead of undecided.
  • Orange — the only colourway here doing something loud. For a room that has committed to a palette and wants one object shouting in it.
