47"×71" or 71"×79" — which one am I actually buying?

Neither size is wrong, they just live in different rooms. The smaller one is a throw you drape and use. The larger one covers the whole sofa, or the top half of a bed.

Choose If this sounds like you
47"×71" You want something to pull over your legs on the couch, or fold over the arm of a reading chair so it looks deliberate rather than dumped.
71"×79" Two adults share the sofa and neither wants to negotiate, or you're laying it across the foot of a bigger bed and want it to hang past the sides.

Plenty of people end up with the small one downstairs and the large one on the bed.

Will a braided cotton knit go baggy after a few washes?

Not if you keep it out of the tumble dryer. Cotton knits stretch when they're heavy and hot at the same time — the weight of the wet fabric pulls the braid open. Handle the drying properly and the cable pattern holds its shape.

Do this Avoid this
Cold gentle cycle, on its own or with soft items Washing it with zips, hooks or buckles that catch the braid
Dry flat, reshaping the edges while it's damp Hanging it wet over a line or rail — it will grow lengthways
Snip nothing; ease a pulled loop back through with your fingers Bleach, fabric softener, hot tumble drying

The step almost everyone skips: reshaping it while damp. Two minutes of squaring off the corners is the difference between a throw that keeps its rectangle and one that slowly turns into a trapezoid.

A throw with enough weight and texture that the sofa looks styled even when nobody is sitting on it.

Thin throws are the problem. They slide off the cushion, they bunch into a rope at your feet, and folded over the sofa arm they look like a tea towel that got ambitious. A braided knit behaves differently because the cable structure gives the fabric body — it stays where you put it, holds a fold, and drapes in soft columns instead of collapsing flat.

The braid is doing structural work, not just decoration

A flat-knit throw is one plane of yarn. This one is built from raised cable columns running the length of the piece, which means the fabric has a front and a back with real depth between them. That depth traps a layer of air, so it feels warmer than the weight suggests, and it stops the throw from clinging to itself when you shake it out. Cotton handles the rest: it breathes, so you can keep it on through a mild evening without overheating, and it softens with each wash rather than pilling into a matted surface.

Choosing a colour

  • Forest Haven — a deep, slightly muted green. It reads almost neutral against wood and leather, and it's the one to pick if your sofa is grey or oatmeal and the room needs something with a bit of depth in it.
  • Smoky Quartz — a warm mid-grey with a brown undertone. The safest of the four, and the one that hides the most life. Good on a sofa that gets daily use.
  • Sky Mist — a pale, cool blue. It lifts a dark room and looks best in a bedroom or a light-walled living space where you want the throw to be visible rather than blended in.
  • Mocha Cream — soft milky brown. Reads as a warm neutral, sits happily on cream and tan furniture, and is the easy choice if you don't want the throw to be the thing people notice first.
