Will it actually stay put on my bathroom floor?
Non-slip performance depends as much on the floor as on the mat. A clean, dry, flat surface grips. A film of shower gel or a heated-floor slick does not — and that's true of every bath mat ever made.

Why the braid outlasts a flat pile
A cut-pile mat is thousands of loose fibre ends standing on end. Wet them, stand on them, and they lie down — permanently, in the shape of the person who uses the bathroom most. A braid is a continuous rope worked back on itself, so there are no loose ends to flatten. Compress it and it recovers, because the structure is the fabric rather than a fringe attached to a backing. That also means it survives washing better: there's no pile to shed and no backing layer trying to separate from a face layer.
