Four sizes — what's this blanket for?

Get the size right and the colour is the fun part; get it wrong and no colour saves it. The jump from 39″×59″ to 79″×91″ is the difference between a lap throw and a full bed cover.

Choose If this sounds like you
39″×59″ A lap blanket for the reading chair, a cot or toddler bed, or the one that lives in the car boot for cold sidelines and picnics. Too small to share, deliberately.
59″×79″ One adult, covered head to toe on the sofa. The size most people mean when they say "throw", and small enough to fold onto the arm of the chair.
71″×79″ Nearly square and much wider. Two people on a sofa, or a double bed where you want the waffle texture reaching the edges.
79″×91″ A Queen bed as a full top layer with a side drop, or a three-seater sofa covered end to end.

Colour and size are chosen separately, so all six shades come in all four sizes — a small Yellow for the car and a large Grey for the bed is a completely normal order.

Does waffle texture flatten out after a few washes?

Not if you keep it out of high heat. Waffle is a three-dimensional weave, and the only thing that permanently crushes it is being cooked in a hot dryer or pressed under a hot iron.

Works on Avoid
Cool machine wash on a normal cycle, low tumble or line dry, folded storage in a basket or ottoman High-heat drying, hot ironing, bleach, and fabric softener — softener fills the waffle pockets with residue and takes the spring out of the surface

The step almost everyone skips: give it a hard shake out of the machine before it dries. The waffle cells collapse when the blanket comes out compressed in a wet lump, and a single shake pops them back open so it dries with the texture standing proud. Skip it and the blanket dries flat and you'll swear it lost something.

Warmth you can dial up by folding it, not by buying a thicker one.

The problem with most throws is that they are one temperature. Too warm in October, not enough in January, so you own three and use one. Waffle sidesteps that. The texture traps air in its cells, and folding it doubles the number of cells between you and the room — which means one blanket, one layer for a mild evening, folded in half when the heating goes off.

Why waffle, and why the checkered grid holds up

A flat-woven blanket insulates by being thick. A waffle-woven one insulates by being structured: the raised grid holds air pockets across the whole surface, so you get warmth per gram of fabric rather than warmth per inch of bulk. That's why a waffle blanket feels warmer than it looks and packs smaller than it feels.

The checkered grid is also what stops this looking tired in a year. The pattern isn't printed or dyed onto the surface — it's the physical structure of the weave, so there is nothing to fade off, nothing to rub away where knees and elbows sit. What changes over time is that the cells relax and the whole thing gets softer, which is the direction you want a blanket to move in.

The six colours, and who reaches for each

  • Pink — the warm one. Lifts a grey sofa immediately and reads soft rather than sweet because the waffle grid keeps it graphic.
  • Blue — the easiest to live with in a room that already has navy, denim or blue-and-white going on. Hides marks better than the pale shades.
  • Green — the one people buy for rooms with plants, rattan and timber. Sits with natural materials rather than competing with them.
  • Yellow — the loudest of the six, and the reason to buy it. A north-facing room that never gets direct sun looks warmer the moment this is in it.
  • Grey — the mid-tone, safest choice. Goes with everything, shows the least, and is usually the one that ends up on the bed.
  • Light Grey — quieter and paler than Grey, closer to a soft stone. Picked for bedrooms where the blanket should be texture, not colour.

What You're Getting

  • One waffle checkered blanket in your chosen Colour and Size — six shades, four sizes from 39″×59″ to 79″×91″
  • Waffle weave construction that traps air in the grid rather than relying on bulk
  • Checkered texture built into the weave, so there's no printed layer to fade or rub off
  • Adjustable warmth — fold it double and the same blanket handles a colder night
  • Four sizes spanning a lap throw, a single sofa user, a shared sofa and a full Queen top layer
  • Packs down smaller than a flat blanket of the same warmth
  • Machine washable — cool wash, low tumble or line dry, no fabric softener
  • Shake it out wet and the waffle cells stand back up as it dries
