Will it slide around, and how do I keep it looking pressed?
Cloths slip on glass and gloss; they grip on timber and matt. That's the honest answer, and it decides whether you need anything under it.

Cool machine wash, low tumble or line dry. The step everyone skips: put it back on the table while it's still slightly damp and smooth it out flat with your palms. It dries to the shape of the table and you never touch an iron. Fold it back over the same creases each time and even those settle into a straight line down the centre.

You can tell within a second of walking into a room whether the table has been thought about. A bare top with a stack of mail at one end says nobody's eating here tonight. Why a woven blossom, not a printed one
Printed tablecloths have a tell: hold one up to the window and the pattern is only on one face, sitting on the surface like ink on paper. It looks fine new. Then the middle third gets wiped a thousand times, and the print there goes pale while the ends stay bright, and the whole cloth looks tired long before the fabric wears out.
A woven blossom is made from the yarn. The pattern has depth you can feel with a fingertip, it catches overhead light differently from the flat ground around it, and — the part that actually matters — it cannot rub off, because there is nothing sitting on top of the cloth to rub.
