Is a cotton blanket what you're actually after?

There's one version of Bloomline — nothing to choose — so the only question worth asking is whether cotton is the right fibre for the job you have in mind. Cotton and fleece are different tools, and most disappointment with a blanket comes from buying one and wanting the other.

This is right for If this sounds like you
A year-round layer You want one blanket that works over a bed in spring and under a duvet in winter, rather than two that each work for four months.
A blanket that gets washed a lot Kids, a dog on the sofa, or you just like things clean. Cotton takes repeated washing better than anything brushed or synthetic.
Anyone who overheats Fleece makes you sweat within twenty minutes and then you push it off. Cotton breathes, so it doesn't do that.

Not what you want if you're after deep-pile, sink-into-it warmth. That's a sherpa job, and this isn't one.

Will the floral fade, and will it shrink?

Cotton shrinks with heat and fades with sun and bleach — both are heat and light problems, not fabric quality problems. Every one of them is a habit you can change, and the whole list fits in one table.

    Works Avoid
Cold or cool machine wash with a color-safe detergent Hot washes, which is where nearly all cotton shrinkage comes from
Line drying in shade, or a low tumble Full sun on the line — UV takes the floral tones down within a summer
Warm iron on the reverse if you want it crisp Bleach or oxygen stain sprays anywhere on the printed face

The step people skip: drying it in the shade. Hanging it in direct sun feels like the efficient choice and it is the single fastest way to dull a floral. Shade takes an extra hour and buys you years.

The blanket that's still in use in July.

Most households own a blanket that comes out in November and goes back in the cupboard in March, and for the other seven months it takes up a shelf. That's not a fault with the blanket, it's a fault with the fibre — fleece and sherpa only do one thing, and that thing is heat. A cotton blanket is a different proposition. It's the layer over the bed in spring that stops the room looking bare, the thing on the couch in summer when the air conditioning is up too high, and the extra layer under the duvet in January. Same object, twelve months.

Why cotton is the fibre that survives your washing machine

Softness in a synthetic throw is surface fluff — fibres brushed up to stand proud of the fabric. It feels wonderful for a season, and then those raised fibres tangle at the base under agitation and become pills. Once a fleece throw has pilled there is no undoing it, and every subsequent wash makes it worse.

Cotton doesn't work that way. Its softness comes from the fibre itself and from the weave, not from a raised nap, so there's nothing standing up to abrade. Wash it fifty times and it doesn't pill; it does the opposite, breaking in and getting softer as the fibres relax. It's also breathable in a way synthetics simply aren't — air passes through the weave, so warmth builds without moisture getting trapped against you. That's why you can sleep under this on a mild night without waking up damp, and it's why the same blanket still makes sense in winter.

    Where the Bloomline floral works

    • Over a plain bed — laid across the foot or pulled up over a white duvet. The floral does the decorating so the rest of the bedding doesn't have to, which is a cheaper way to change a bedroom than buying new bed linen.
    • On the sofa — folded over an arm or the back. Cotton holds a fold sharply rather than slumping, so it looks placed rather than dumped even when nobody has touched it in a week.
    • Taken outside — this is the one cotton is genuinely better at. It's the picnic blanket, the balcony blanket, the one that goes in the car boot, because it washes properly afterwards and it doesn't hold grass and damp the way a napped throw does.

    What You're Getting

    • One Bloomline cotton floral blanket, finished at all edges
    • Cotton construction — softness from the fibre and the weave rather than a brushed nap that pills
    • Breathable, so it adds warmth without trapping moisture against you
    • Year-round use: over a bed in spring, on the couch in summer, under a duvet in winter
    • Gets softer with washing rather than degrading, which is the reverse of how a fleece throw ages
    • Holds a fold cleanly on a sofa arm instead of slumping
    • Machine washable cold with a color-safe detergent, no bleach
    • Shade dry or tumble low — direct sun is what dulls a floral, not time
