What happens to the tassels in the wash?
Tassels tangle with each other and with anything else in the drum — that's the failure mode, and it's entirely avoidable. They don't fall off from washing; they get matted, and then people cut them off and blame the blanket.

The step people skip: the finger-comb while damp. It takes about a minute per edge and it's the entire difference between tassels that look intentional in year two and tassels that look like something the dog found.

Most blankets stop. There's fabric, then there's a seam, then there's nothing, and the object reads as a rectangle that ended. Tassels change that: the edge becomes soft and irregular, so a folded blanket over a sofa arm has a fringe hanging below it rather than a hard horizontal line. It's a small thing that does a disproportionate amount of work, which is why almost every blanket you've ever coveted in someone else's living room had a fringe on it.
Why the tassels also keep the blanket hanging straight
A large piece of soft fabric with a plain hem curls. It happens gradually, over a dozen washes, as the hem stitching shrinks at a slightly different rate to the body of the cloth — and then the blanket never quite lies flat over the end of a bed again, and one corner is always kicking up.
A tassel edge is a weighted edge. The mass of the strands pulls the perimeter down and keeps the cloth in tension, which means the blanket hangs square over a sofa back and drapes cleanly down the side of a mattress instead of riding up. That's also why it looks good draped rather than only when perfectly folded — the weight makes the folds fall in soft vertical lines on their own, without you arranging them.
The colours and sizes, in a room
- Orange & Purple — the loud one, and deliberately so. Against a grey sofa or a white bed it's the single object your eye goes to. Best used alone; it does not want company.
- Ginger Yellow & Green — the warm, earthy one. Reads as autumnal rather than bright, and it sits naturally in rooms with timber, rattan and plants already in them.
- Khaki — the quiet one. The floral is still fully there, but tonal, so from across the room it registers as a textured neutral. The one to buy if the blanket has to coexist with existing pattern.
- 59" × 79" — the couch size. One adult full length, or folded in thirds over a sofa arm with the tassels hanging below.
