59"×79" or 79"×91"?

The smaller one is a throw and the larger one is a bed blanket — they do genuinely different jobs. Work out where it is going to spend most of its life and buy for that, because the wrong size gets used once and then lives in a cupboard.

Choose If this sounds like you
59"×79" It lives on the sofa. One or two people under it in the evening, folded over the arm the rest of the time, occasionally on the foot of a bed or in the back of the car for a picnic. Easier to wash and faster to dry.
79"×91" It goes on a bed and stays there. Wide enough to hang down both sides of a double or queen instead of leaving one person's shoulder exposed at 2am. Also the one for a household where the blanket has to survive two adults and a dog.

On colour: hold each one against your sofa, not against your walls — the sofa is what it will be lying on.

Reversible — is the back actually usable, or is it just a lining?

Both faces are finished, which is the entire point of buying a reversible blanket rather than a printed one. A printed blanket has a good side and a pale, blotchy reverse you have to hide. This one has two fronts, so it goes down whichever way it lands and it never looks wrong.

Works on Avoid
Cold machine wash on a gentle cycle. Washing on its own, or with other soft bedding. Low tumble drying, or flat drying out of direct sun. Sofas, beds, floor cushions, picnics, the spare room. Bleach and stain sprays containing bleach — they take the colour out of one face and you cannot flip your way out of that. Hot washes. Drying it in full sun for hours, which fades the darker face faster than the lighter one. Washing with anything that has a zip.

Care, in order: shake it out, cold gentle wash, low tumble or dry flat, then fold it with the two faces alternating so neither one takes all the crease. The step people skip is turning it over every few weeks. If you always leave the same face up, that side gets all the sunlight and all the wear, and eighteen months later the blanket is no longer reversible in any useful sense — you just have a good side and a faded one. Flipping it is free.

Two blankets' worth of look, from one blanket you flip over.

The frustrating thing about blankets is that you buy one for how it looks, and then it spends most of its life crumpled. It gets pulled off the bed in the morning, dropped on the sofa, kicked to the floor during a film, and every one of those moments is a fifty-fifty chance of it landing wrong side up. With a single-sided blanket that means constantly straightening it, or living with a pale underside on show. A reversible one removes that entire small irritation, and it gives you a second version of the room whenever you want a change — no shopping, just turn it over.

Where reversible blankets are made or ruined

The construction problem with any two-faced blanket is what happens between the layers. Cheap versions bond two fabrics with adhesive or a loose backing, and the two faces then behave differently in the wash — one shrinks slightly more than the other, and the blanket comes out of the dryer with a rippled, puckered surface it will never lose. You see it most along the edges, where the seam starts to wave.

A properly built reversible blanket has both faces moving as one piece, so it comes out of the machine flat and it stays flat through years of washing. That also matters for warmth: layers that stay in contact hold air evenly across the whole blanket, rather than forming cold pockets where the faces have separated. The abstract sunny motif is carried in the fabric itself, so there is no printed film on the surface to stiffen, crack along the folds, or wash out at the corners first.

  • Neutral White — warm off-white with the abstract shapes reading as tone-on-tone rather than as high contrast. This is the version that suits a bedroom you want to stay calm, and it sits happily on linen, timber and cream without competing with anything.
  • Cool Azure — the blue face brings the pattern forward, so it works as the one bit of colour in a white room. Better in a living room than a bedroom if you want the blanket to be noticed, and it is the pick for coastal palettes and rooms with a lot of natural light.

What You're Getting

  • One reversible blanket in your chosen Colour and Size — Neutral White or Cool Azure, 59"×79" or 79"×91"
  • Two finished faces, so there is no wrong side and no pale lining to hide
  • Abstract sunny motif carried in the fabric rather than printed on the surface
  • 59"×79" for the sofa — throw sized, folds small, quick to wash and dry
  • 79"×91" for a double or queen bed, with enough width to hang down both sides
  • Machine wash cold on gentle, tumble low or dry flat away from direct sun
  • No bleach — it strips one face and there is no flipping past that
  • Turn it over every few weeks so both faces wear and fade at the same rate
  • Doubles as a picnic, spare room or floor-cushion blanket because neither side needs hiding
