Acrylic — is it going to itch, and will it pill?
It does not itch, which is the whole reason acrylic exists in blankets. The prickle people associate with a warm throw comes from coarse wool fibres pushing against skin. Acrylic has no scales and no lanolin, so there is nothing to react to — which also makes it the sensible pick in a house where someone is sensitive to wool.

There are two ways to get a pattern onto a throw. Printed pattern sits on top of the fibres, so it cracks along fold lines, fades unevenly in sunlight, and creates a slightly stiff panel you can feel with your hand. Worked into the knit, the abstract pattern is made of the yarn itself. There is nothing on the surface to wear off, and both faces carry the design instead of one good side and one blank back.
It also means the throw drapes the same across the whole piece. Nothing is stiffer where the pattern is, so it falls over the arm of a sofa in soft folds rather than holding a crease across the printed section.
