What happens when something catches a knit?
A knit is a continuous loop structure, so a snag pulls a long strand out rather than breaking a thread — and that's fixable in about ten seconds if you do the right thing. It's only permanent if you cut it.

Flat throws have a problem in photographs and in real rooms: they read as a rectangle of color with nothing happening on the surface. Knitted pattern behaves differently from printed pattern
When a design is printed, it lives on the surface. It looks sharp on day one, and then it fades unevenly, cracks where the blanket folds repeatedly, and loses definition in the wash. When a design is knitted in, it's built from the structure of the fabric itself — the palms and blooms exist because the stitches change, not because ink was added. There's nothing to fade off and nothing to crack, which is why a knitted motif still looks like itself after a hundred washes.
The other thing a knit gives you is stretch, and it matters more than it sounds. A woven blanket is rigid on both axes, so it sits on top of you in stiff planes and slides off a shoulder the moment you move. A knit gives slightly in every direction, which means it follows the shape of whatever it's over — it moulds around a shoulder, tucks around your legs in a chair, and stays put instead of sliding to the floor. It's also why it drapes over the back of a sofa in soft folds rather than sitting there like a board.
