Is a 59"×79" tiger blanket the right thing for your room?

There's one size and one design, so the only real question is whether a large animal print earns its place where you'd put it. This is a blanket with a subject on it — it's the thing people look at when they walk in, not a neutral you forget about.

Right for you if Probably not if
Your sofa is plain and the room needs one thing with a bit of nerve in it. Your sofa is already patterned. Two competing prints in one seating area never settles.
You want a throw for one person on a sofa or across the foot of a bed — 59"×79" is a single-person blanket, not a bedspread. You're after full coverage on a double bed. At this size it will stop short of the sides.
You like the idea of flipping to the quieter face when guests are over and the tiger is doing too much. You want something that disappears into a minimal room. It won't.

The reverse side is the escape hatch — the blanket has two moods and you decide which one is facing up.

Will the tiger still look like a tiger in a year?

Printed animal designs fail in one specific way — the darks go grey and the edges of the pattern soften — and both are caused by heat and abrasion rather than time. The face is the part that carries the whole product, so it's worth treating properly.

    Do this Avoid
Wash cold and on its own, so nothing heavier is rubbing against the printed face in the drum. Hot water. It's the fastest way to take the depth out of the dark markings.
Dry it in shade or indoors, flat or over a rail. Drying it in direct sun. The pattern is the first casualty and it fades unevenly.
Spot clean small marks with cool water and a cloth rather than running the whole thing through. Bleach or any stain remover with bleach in it — it lifts the print, not the stain.

Fold it face-in when you put it away, so the printed side isn't the surface taking the friction on a shelf. The step people skip: turning it inside a duvet cover or a wash bag before the machine. Ten seconds of preparation, and the face never touches the drum.

One side is a tiger. The other side is for when your mother-in-law visits.

Every living room has a spot that's gone dead — usually the back of the sofa, sometimes the end of the bed — where nothing has been decided and so nothing is there. The safe fix is another grey throw, and the room stays exactly as flat as it was. This is the unsafe fix: a large, deliberate animal print that gives the seating area a focal point, folded over an arm where you'd otherwise have nothing at all.

Reversible is what makes a bold print survivable

The problem with a statement blanket is commitment. You buy the striking one, you love it for a fortnight, and then there's a day when the room feels loud and you'd rather it wasn't there — so it goes in a cupboard and stays there. A reversible construction removes that failure entirely. The blanket has two finished faces, so the decision isn't keep-or-hide, it's which way up. Flip it and the same object goes from the loudest thing in the room to a plain textile you barely notice.

It also changes how it behaves in use. Because both faces are finished, there's no wrong side to hide, which means it drapes over the back of a chair or folds across a bed without you having to arrange it so the ugly side is tucked away. Practically, it doubles the surface you can wear against your skin as well — you're not stuck with whichever face happens to be the nice one.

    • The tiger face — the reason to buy it. A single large animal design across the panel rather than a repeating small motif, which is what makes it read as artwork thrown over a sofa rather than as patterned fabric.
    • The reverse face — the quieter of the two, and the one that gets turned up when the room already has enough going on. Fully finished, so it's a legitimate second look rather than a backing.
    • 59"×79" — one-person coverage. Long enough to stretch out under on a sofa, wide enough to wrap a shoulder, and sized to sit across the foot of a bed without swamping it.
