Woven cotton throw, or the fleece one you already own?
If you want something that still looks deliberate at the end of a long day and doesn't cook you in summer, this is the one. Solea is jacquard, which means the floral is woven into the cloth rather than printed onto it. You can feel the pattern with your thumb, the reverse side reads as a softer negative of the front, and cotton lets heat out instead of holding it against you like a polyester throw does.
| Where it goes | If this sounds like you |
|---|---|
| Over the sofa arm | The couch is fine but the room looks unfinished, and you don't want to buy a rug to fix it. |
| Across the foot of the bed | You kick the duvet off at 2am and want something to pull back over your legs without waking up properly. |
| The shared blanket | Someone in the house runs hot and someone runs cold, and the fleece throw only ever suits one of them. |
Plenty of people keep one downstairs and one in the bedroom, so nobody has to go looking.
Will the pattern survive being washed every other week?
A woven pattern can't peel or crack, because there's no layer sitting on the surface to peel off. What jacquard does mind is snagging and heat, so the care is less about detergent and more about what you let it touch.
| Fine with | Avoid |
|---|---|
| Cold machine wash on a gentle cycle, on its own or with soft cotton | Washing it with zips, hooks or Velcro, which pull threads out of the weave |
| Air drying flat or over a rail, pattern side up | Hot tumble drying, which is what shrinks cotton and puckers a woven motif |
| A warm iron on the reverse if it comes out creased | Bleach and stain sticks, which lift color out of the woven florals unevenly |
The step people skip: shaking it out hard before it dries. Thirty seconds of that and the weave sets flat, which is the difference between a throw you drape and a throw you have to iron.
The blanket you reach for first stops being the ugly one.
Most houses have a spare blanket that lives on the back of the sofa because it has to live somewhere. It's usually fleece, usually a color nobody chose on purpose, and it gets shoved behind a cushion whenever someone comes over. Solea is the version you leave out. Folded in thirds over an arm it reads as a decision, and it's still the thing you actually pull over yourself at nine o'clock.

Jacquard is why it holds its shape after a hundred nights
A printed throw is a plain cloth with a picture stamped on it. Sit on it for a year and the print goes chalky at the fold lines while the cloth underneath stays fine. Jacquard is different work: the floral is built during weaving, with the threads themselves changing direction to make the petals. That gives the cloth a slight relief you can feel, a two-tone reverse, and a denser body than a plain weave of the same yarn, so it hangs in soft folds instead of sliding off your knees in a heap. Cotton does the rest. It takes a wash without going stiff, it doesn't cling with static in winter, and it gets more comfortable rather than more matted with use.
- Front face — the raised floral, with the pattern catching light along the ridges. This is the side you show when it's folded on display.
- Reverse face — the same motif in reverse tone, quieter and flatter. Some people prefer it face-up in a plainer room.
- Edges — finished so the weave doesn't unravel where hands and feet drag it around.
