Throw for the sofa, or a full layer for the bed?
Both sizes are the same cotton blanket — the difference is whether it is decoration you occasionally pull over you, or the thing you sleep under. Decide by where it will end up at midnight.
| Choose | If this sounds like you |
|---|---|
| 59"×79" | It lives folded over a sofa arm or an armchair back, and gets pulled across one person's legs on a cool evening. |
| 79"×91" | You want it across a double bed as the top layer, or over a sofa two people are sharing without either of them tugging. |
The small one on a shared sofa is the classic error. It is a one-person blanket and it will be treated as one.
Will these deep colors fade or bleed in the wash?
Rosewood Red and Mocha Rose are the two that need a little care on the first wash — after that they settle. Cool water and no direct sun keeps all three where they should be.
| Works on | Avoid |
|---|---|
| Cool machine wash, gentle cycle | Washing Rosewood Red with anything white on cycle one |
| Drying flat or on low, out of harsh sunlight | Hot water, which is where cotton shrinkage comes from |
| Warm iron on the reverse to drop the fold lines | Bleach, and heavy softener that stiffens the weave over time |
The step people skip: squaring it up while damp. Cotton keeps whatever shape it dried in. Pull the corners straight once before it dries and you will never need to iron it.
One warm color, and the room stops looking like a rental.
Grey sofa, white walls, pale wood floor. It photographs fine and it lives cold. The furniture is not the problem — the problem is that there is no single warm thing in the room, so every evening it reads as somewhere you are passing through rather than somewhere you sit.
The fix is usually one object, not a redecoration. A cotton throw in a warm, saturated tone across the arm of the sofa gives the eye somewhere to land, and you can do it in the time it takes to unfold it.

Cotton is why this one stays out all year
Synthetic throws are a winter object whether you want them to be or not. They trap heat with no way for it to escape, which is welcome in January and unbearable by May, so from spring they go in a cupboard and the room loses the thing that was warming it up visually.
Cotton breathes. Body heat moves through it instead of building underneath, so it works as a light cover in summer and as a layer under something heavier in winter. It also improves rather than degrades — the weave relaxes with each wash, where a synthetic pile pills and goes slick.
The other quiet advantage is how cotton holds these particular colors. Deep rose and olive on a woven cotton ground read as dyed depth rather than printed surface, which is why the blanket looks like a considered piece of furniture and not like a novelty throw.
The three colorways
- Rosewood Red — the deepest and the boldest. Pick it if the room is grey, white or navy and needs one thing with real heat in it.
- Olive Bloom — the muted green. The one for rooms that already have plants, rattan or oak, where you want warmth without another red in the mix.
- Mocha Rose — the softest of the three, sitting between brown and dusty pink. The safe choice for a beige or oatmeal sofa you do not want to fight with.
