45"×59" or 50"×60"? They look close.
They are close, and neither is a wrong answer for one person on a sofa. The five inches of extra width is the difference between a blanket that sits on you and one you can wrap around yourself.
| Choose | If this sounds like you |
|---|---|
| 45"×59" | You want it folded over the arm of a chair as much as you want to use it, or it is going in a pram, a car, or a bag that has to close. |
| 50"×60" | You are a wrapper rather than a coverer, and you want enough width to pull it right around your shoulders while you read. |
If the household argues over blankets, the answer has never been one blanket.
Will the tassels survive the washing machine?
Tassels are the part that fails first on any blanket, and it is almost always the dryer that does it. They tangle, knot, then get pulled apart when someone tries to comb them out.
| Works | Avoid |
|---|---|
| Cool gentle wash, ideally in a laundry bag with the tassels contained, then line drying with the fringed edges hanging free and straight | Tumble drying, which tangles fringe into knots, and washing it alongside zips, hooks or Velcro, which will catch a tassel and pull it out |
Straighten the tassels with your fingers while the blanket is still damp, before it dries. That is the step everybody skips, and it is the entire reason some fringed blankets look neat after a year and others look chewed.
The room gets its color from something you can also fall asleep under.
Most living rooms are built out of safe decisions. Grey sofa, oatmeal cushions, wooden floor, and a general sense that nothing in the room is going to embarrass anybody. It is also, if you are honest, a bit flat. A rainbow-striped blanket with tassels is the cheapest way to break that, because it is a big block of color that does not require you to commit to anything. It goes on the sofa. If you tire of it, it goes in a cupboard.

Why the stripe direction and the fringe do the work
A printed pattern sits on the surface of a blanket and eventually looks like what it is. Stripes woven as bands of color run through the fabric, so the edges stay crisp instead of blurring with washing, and the color does not crack or fade off the face of the cloth. It is also why a striped blanket still looks like itself in year three, while a printed throw usually looks tired by then.
The tassels are not just trim. A finished fringe is what stops the woven edge of a blanket from unravelling along its length, which is where cheap throws fail. It also changes how the blanket sits: fringe has weight, so the ends hang straight down over the arm of a sofa rather than curling up. The blanket looks deliberately placed even when nobody placed it, which is a fair description of the ideal piece of living-room furniture.
Where the two Sizes end up
- 45"×59" on the sofa arm is the display use. Folded in thirds, the stripes stack into bands and the fringe hangs off the front edge, which is why this size reads as a decorative throw first and a blanket second.
- 45"×59" on the move is the practical use. It is the size that folds small enough for a car boot, a pram, a picnic bag or a camping chair without taking the whole bag.
- 50"×60" on the sofa is a proper personal blanket. There is enough width to wrap over both shoulders and still have it cover your knees, which the smaller size will not quite do.
- 50"×60" on a bed works across the foot of a double as a color band, or as the extra layer for a child's single bed where a full duvet is too much in spring.

What You're Getting
- One Rainbow Striped Tassel Blanket in your chosen Size
- Two Sizes: 45"×59" and 50"×60"
- Rainbow stripe banding running across the blanket rather than printed on the surface
- Tasselled edges that finish the ends and stop the edge working loose
- Light enough to use in spring, rather than a winter-only weight
- Folds down for a car, a pram, a picnic or a chair outside on a cool evening
- Care: cool gentle wash, no tumble drying, keep it away from zips and hooks in the load
- Comb the tassels straight while damp so they dry flat instead of knotting
