59"×79" or 79"×91"?
Same jacquard, same cotton, same lotus motif at the same scale — the larger size is not a different blanket, just more of it. Decide by who is going to be under it and where it spends its off hours.
| Choose | If this sounds like you |
|---|---|
| 59"×79" | One person, one sofa. The throw that lives folded on the arm and gets pulled over when the evening turns. Folds down small enough to actually put away. |
| 79"×91" | Two of you under it, or you want it across a double bed as a summer top layer where the pattern is on show all day. |
If it is destined for a bed rather than a sofa, take the larger one. A blanket that stops at the mattress edge always looks short.
Is cotton warm enough, or too warm?
Cotton is the fibre for people who overheat under fleece and freeze under nothing. It breathes, so it works across more of the year than a synthetic throw does — which is the main reason to pick it.
| Works for | Avoid |
|---|---|
| Sleeping hot, spring and autumn evenings, a summer bed layer, a sofa throw in a heated room, anyone who finds fleece clammy after an hour | Hot washes and high tumble heat — cotton shrinks when you cook it. Also bleach, and pulling any thread that catches on a ring rather than easing it back through |
Care: cool gentle machine wash with like colors, no bleach. Low tumble or line dry. The step people skip — take it out of the dryer while it still feels faintly cool and damp, then lay it flat. Cotton dried to the point of crisp goes stiff, and the jacquard face loses the soft relief that makes the pattern visible in the first place.
A blanket that looks like something even when nobody is using it.
Most throws are ugly when they are off duty. They sit in a crumpled heap on the sofa arm, one flat printed face up, and the room is slightly worse for having them out. The alternative is folding one properly every morning, which nobody does past the first week. A jacquard blanket sidesteps the whole problem, because the interest is in the surface rather than in how neatly it has been arranged. Bunched on a chair it still reads as texture and pattern, not as laundry.

Jacquard means the lotus is built in, not stamped on
A printed blanket carries its pattern in dye sitting on the face of the fabric. It looks flat under a lamp, it goes pale where the sun reaches it, and washing gradually takes the edges off. Jacquard is a weaving method — the lotus motif is formed as the cloth is made, from the direction and structure of the threads themselves. Nothing has been added to the surface, so there is nothing for the wash to take away.
The visible difference is light. Because the pattern is relief rather than ink, the lotus blooms catch the light differently as the blanket moves and folds. In flat morning light the motif is subtle. Under a side lamp in the evening it shows properly. It is the same reason a damask tablecloth looks like more than a white sheet.
Cotton is the right fibre to do this in. It takes a woven relief and holds it, it gets softer with each wash rather than fluffier, and it does not build up the static charge that makes a synthetic throw cling to everything in the room.
- 59"×79" — the single throw. Full length for one adult, and small enough folded that it fits in a basket or under a bed without a struggle.
- 79"×91" — the shared size. Wide enough for two people on a sofa and deep enough to lay across a double bed with the pattern fully visible.
