Throw size or bed size?
These two aren't the same product at different scales — they do different jobs. 59"×75" is a throw you pick up and wrap around yourself. 87"×102" is a bed cover that stays where it's put.
| Choose | If this sounds like you |
|---|---|
| 59"×75" | You want the thing you drag off the back of the sofa at eight at night. One person, feet covered, easy to fold and carry between rooms. |
| 87"×102" | You're dressing a bed. Wide enough for a king with a real drop each side, so the tassels hang free instead of resting on the mattress. |
The tassel edge is what makes the drop worth having — undersize it and you lose the detail you're buying.
Won't the tassels tangle and the knit snag?
Both are real risks, and both are almost entirely about how you wash it. An open knit with a fringed edge is the single worst thing to put in a machine with anything that has a hook, a zip or a velcro strap.
| Safe with | Keep it away from |
|---|---|
| Washing on its own, cold and gentle; drying flat; combing the tassels straight with your fingers while damp | Zips, bra hooks, velcro, cat claws, rough timber furniture edges, hot dryers, and being dragged over a splintered deck |
If a loop pulls, don't cut it — ease it back through with a blunt needle and the knit closes up. The step people skip: separate the tassels while the blanket is still damp. Let them dry matted together and they stay that way.
The blanket that looks good folded, which is how it spends most of its life.
Be honest about how a throw actually gets used. It's on a sofa arm or the end of a bed for twenty-three hours a day and around a person for one. Most blankets are designed entirely for that one hour — which is why so many living rooms have a nice warm fleece rectangle sitting there looking like a bath mat. An open knit with a tassel edge is the opposite: it has texture and an edge detail, so it holds its shape and looks deliberate even when nobody's using it.

Knit construction is why it breathes and drapes
A woven blanket is a flat sheet — it sits on top of you like a lid. A knit is made of interlocking loops, which means it stretches, it moulds around a shoulder or a knee, and it has air moving through it. That's the reason a knit throw is comfortable at the temperature where a fleece one makes you sweat: it holds warmth without sealing it in.
The tassels do a structural job as well as a decorative one. A fringed edge is a finished edge — there's no hem to roll, no binding to come away, and the weight of the fringe helps the blanket hang straight over the side of a bed instead of riding back up.
Bohemian, specifically
- The floral knit pattern — worked into the structure of the blanket rather than printed on the surface, so it reads as texture from across the room and as detail up close.
- The tassel edge — the thing that pushes it out of "generic throw" territory. It's what makes it look at home with rattan, plants, terracotta and layered rugs.
- 59"×75" — the throw. Sofa, armchair, end of a single bed, or in the car for cold sport sidelines.
- 87"×102" — the bed size. Covers a king with a full drop, and is generous enough that the fringe hangs clear of the mattress edge.
