Black, Silver or White?
This thing lives on the edge of your sink in full view, so pick the one that matches the taps — that's the object it will always be photographed next to. Function is identical across all three.
| Choose | If this sounds like you |
|---|---|
| Black | Matte black tap, dark benchtop, or a kitchen where the hardware is deliberately dark. Also the most forgiving about hard-water marks. |
| Silver | A standard chrome mixer and a stainless sink — the default kitchen. This is the one that looks like it came with the sink. |
| White | A white or light benchtop and a butler's sink, where you want the rack to vanish rather than sit there as a dark object. |
If your kitchen mixes finishes, silver is the one that fights with the fewest of them.
Where will it actually sit?
The self-draining part only works if the water has somewhere to go — back into the sink. Position it so the drainage runs over the sink edge, not onto the benchtop, and the whole thing takes care of itself. Check the size shown on this page against the space beside your tap before ordering.
| Works on | Avoid |
|---|---|
| Kitchen sinks, laundry sinks and bathroom basins with usable space at the back edge; benchtops immediately beside a sink | Anywhere the drainage would run onto timber or unsealed stone, and sinks where the tap sits too far forward to leave clearance behind it |
Rinse it under the tap when you do the dishes anyway. The step people skip: taking the sponge out and squeezing it before it goes back on the rack. A rack that drains cannot help a sponge you put away sopping wet — that's still on you.
The grey puddle behind the tap stops existing.
Every kitchen has the same square foot of misery: a sponge sitting in its own water, a soap bar going to slime on the bench, a dishcloth folded over the tap dripping down the splashback. You wipe it, and within a day it's back, because the problem isn't cleaning — it's that three wet things have nowhere to live. Give them somewhere that drains and the puddle never re-forms.

Why draining, not holding, is the whole design
A caddy that catches water into a tray is just a smaller puddle with a lid. The reason a sponge goes sour in two days is that it never fully dries out, and a tray guarantees it never will — you're storing the sponge in a shallow pond. A self-draining rack does the opposite: water leaves immediately, air gets underneath, and the sponge dries between uses. That single difference is why one sponge lasts noticeably longer here than in a soap dish.
The all-in-one part matters more than it sounds. Sponge, soap and cloth are three separate objects that each generate water, and if you solve one you've solved a third of the problem. Consolidating them onto one footprint also gets two objects off your benchtop, which is usually the real reason people buy this.
The three finishes at the sink
- Black — reads as hardware rather than as a gadget. Best against dark stone, matte black taps and darker splashbacks, and the most tolerant of water spotting in a hard-water area.
- Silver — the neutral pick. Beside a stainless sink and a chrome mixer it looks built-in rather than added, which is exactly what you want from something this small.
- White — disappears into a white benchtop or a ceramic butler's sink. The one to choose if your kitchen is already light and you don't want a dark rectangle drawing the eye to the sink.
